Fellowship Program

Wishing to address the lack of scholarships available to students created by the many refusals following changes in the selection criteria of the Indspire program, the Native Alliance has worked with the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples to improve the offer of scholarships for Indigenous people living off-reserve in the province of Quebec.

It is therefore with great pleasure that the Native Alliance announces that the contract for the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples’ ASETS scholarship program has been renewed and enhanced for the year 2024-2025.

Eligibility criteria:

Must be a member in good standing of the AAQ;
Must be 18 years of age or older;
Must not receive financial assistance from any other source, such as a provincial or federal government scholarship;
Must be in a post-secondary program (CÉGEP, DEP, DEC) of 2 years or less (or the last 2 years of a 3-year post-secondary program) delivered by a provincially recognized educational institution leading to a diploma OR be in their final year of a university program (only the last year of a university program is eligible);
Must not work more than 20 hours/week during their studies;
General or “Bridge” programs (such as college programs leading to university, e.g., DEC in Social Sciences or Natural Sciences) are not eligible.

All students have a different situation. Each one will be treated with the respect they deserve. We recognize that our members have needs and will do everything we can to help them. The scholarship program offers financial assistance for:

Payment of registration fees
Purchase of books or materials
Transport
Living expenses (rent, internet, etc.)

For transportation and living expenses, a percentage is calculated and paid. The total amount requested is not necessarily approved.

Note: The amounts available are limited. There is no deadline to apply for the scholarship program, but it is recommended that you apply as soon as possible. Applications will not be processed until they are complete, so make sure to provide all the required documentation when applying.

Note: The time it takes to obtain a response may vary between 4- and 6-weeks following receipt of all the documents necessary for the application.

Note: If you have been approved and have signed a contract for more than one year, IT IS MANDATORY TO REAPPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP AS OF APRIL 1ST OF THE SECOND YEAR. Otherwise, your scholarship will not be refunded. In addition, if you have bills dated before April 1 of each year, make sure to send them to the person in charge as soon as possible, because as of April 1 of the new year, these bills will not be refunded.

Souhaitant pallier au manque de bourses disponibles pour les étudiants créé par les nombreux refus suite aux changements des critères de sélection du programme Indspire, l’Alliance Autochtone a travaillé avec le Congrès des Peuples Autochtones afin d’améliorer l’offre de bourses pour les autochtones vivant hors du contexte des réserves dans la province de Québec.

C’est donc avec beaucoup de plaisir que l’Alliance Autochtone vous annonce que le contrat pour le programme de bourses ASETS du Congrès des Peuples Autochtones a été renouvelé et bonifié pour l’année 2020-2021.
