Louise pelletier paul (february 1st, 1937 – april 26th, 2025)

It is with great regret that the Dionne/Paul family announces the passing of our mother Louise Pelletier Paul (Rhéal Paul), on April 26, 2025, at the tender age of 88.

She leaves behind six children, Gélineault (Doreen), Constanc (Ginette), Jean-Pierre (Nélia), Vivianne, Gilles (Josée) and Carl (Gabie). Eighteen grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Rhéal Paul, her daughter Johanne, her daughter-in-law Danielle and two grandchildren.

Louise Pelletier Paul was very well known in the Indigenous milieu. In 1971, she was a part of the group who founded the Laurentian Alliance of Métis and Non-Status Indians, working side by side with Kermot Moore, Fern Chalifoux, my dad Rhéal Paul, just to name a few.

She was present when Smokey Bruyère was elected at the NCC, she was there for Jim Sinclair, Harry Daniels, Ron George, Viola Robinson, Dwight Dorey and many more. Yes, we could go on and on and on, after all, 50 years has a long history.

Over the years, the Laurentian Alliance became known as the Native Alliance of Quebec, where she was a board member for more than 30 years. Her dedication to her people and the work she accomplished to better the lives of the aboriginal people in Quebec went above and beyond, because my mother always did more than what was expected of her. She believed in the cause and in the wellbeing of our brothers and sisters.

She was loved by everyone but also feared at times. When the old schoolteacher personality kicked into action, she was a force to be reckoned with. Many people remember her to this day standing up at meetings and giving her opinion on different subjects. Yep, she gave her opinion all right!!! For those who knew her, you will understand.

She stood tall and proud, and she will never be forgotten.

Always in our hearts Mom, thank you for all the work you have done to advance the indigenous cause, and thank you Mom and Dad for bringing me along for the ride. I will forever be thankful.

Her service will be held in Fort-Coulonge, Québec, on May 16th at 11:00 AM at the St-Pierre Parish Church, 529 Baume Street.
